I was born on a moonlit steppe in Siberia. My parents, escaped from the gulag and on the run from the KGB, clad me in wolf fur and indoctrinated me with a single lesson: if I ever saw Joseph Stalin, I was to punch him in the face, and hard.
Some people probably do have fascinating autobiographies like that, but I am not one of them. I was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised a few miles away in Arlington. Rather than attempt to describe my hometown, I'll only share its claim to fame: Arlington is the largest city in the United States without public transportation. Imagine growing up in a town where that is literally the most interesting thing about your surroundings to discuss, and you may begin to understand the enthralling nature of my childhood.
I attended Martin High School (my activities: Academic Decathlon, tennis team, and anything else in the realm of incredible dorkitude), then went to Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. There, I studied Economics and Computer Science. I also had a campus TV show, rocked the Student Court, and ran the most absurd campaign of all time for Senator in Trinity's Student Government (yes, I tasted the sweet fruit of victory). I graduated in 2003.
After that, I moved to Austin and entered the exciting world of software development. I work as a developer for a software company that focuses on the oil and gas industry; I'm also an erstwhile graduate student at UT-Austin (emphasis on the erstwhile part). While I've been here, I've acquired an obese, but fiesty feline, won multiple baking contests (both for chili and pie), and started up this website, which is sure to be a blight on all future personal and professional development.
In case the tens of thousands of words contained here leave you thirsting for more, I'll point you to my photos and my bookmarks. In case you want to contact me, my email is cody at codypowell dot com and I'm occasionally on AIM as slimpy foo. If those don't work, locate a conch shell and blow an E flat; that ought to be get me running.
