Trip Recap

Wooooooooooo boy, I'm back in the States. How was the trip? Well if you ask me, the trip was awesome. If you ask American Express, they will concur as it is impossible to go to the UK without racking up thirteen billion dollars in debt. Even with the new bankruptcy laws in place, it was worth it.

Here's a short summary:

  • London - the most happening city I've ever been to. It's astounding how many languages I heard and how even the pubs are 400 years old. It's also astounding how badly my jeans stank when I took them off after walking around this city; I don't have any theories about this just yet. I heard a lot beforehand just how expensive it is to hang out in London, but I found that I was able to get around pretty good for 50 pounds a day, not counting our room costs. (Note for Americans: due to currency fluctuations, fifty pounds is roughly equivalent to $4500.) All of the tourist stuff was very, very impressive.
  • Wales - if you like castles and prettiness, this is a good spot. We spent a couple of nights in Cardiff, then went up into central Wales one day. One neat thing about Cardiff is that it has this great, big castle in the middle of the city, and the castle is full of peacocks. Another neat thing is that there's this giant smokestack there that reads BRAINS. No, it's not for a zombie factory, but for a beer they brew there. Tasty stuff, too.
  • Edinburgh - I loved this city, and I could certainly live here. First, I loved the accents. Second, even the "new" part of the city is 300 years old. Third, every single person in this city seemed like they could drink me under the table. I dug the whole city and it was much less intimidating than London.
  • The Highlands - we took a day tour up to the Highlands, and it was a lot of fun. I recommend doing that if you can get a crazy Highlander to act as your tour guide, as we did. Man, that guy did not like the British or Mel Gibson. The sights here were phenomenal, and we stopped at a scotch distillery that was kind of okay. The cool part was just to listen to the Scottish lunatic talk about all of the places we were rolling through.
  • Newcastle - ehh. Apparently, there's not much to do in Newcastle except to look at a large bridge. I went there because I thought they had a big brewery, but even Newcastle beer wants nothing to do with the city itself. The drinks are cheap here, though.

To go along wiht all of this, I have 9 zillion pictures that I'm slowly uploading to Flickr. If I finish that before the heat death of the universe, I'll let everybody know.
